All The Men I've Loved Before

My mornings usually start with me waking up, rolling over and looking at the clock to determine whether I should get up now or later. (That's one of the luxuries of not having to punch in and out of a time clock.)  After I chose to go ahead and start my day and complete  the hygiene ritual, I throw on a pair of sweats and a tank top, (another perk.) pull my hair/ weave into a ponytail or whatever and head downstairs to watch tv.  I choose to watch downstairs to ensure that I don't go back to bed and procrastinate my day away. (Self discipline, a must when you're self employed!) I watch O-frah, The View/ My Wife & Kids, the news and Who Wants to be a Millionaire. (Personally I'd settle for a third right now.) I love to play along to see how far I can get.  Since I've started this morning ritual, I've noticed how much pop culture has influenced my life.  (I hardly ever miss those questions.)
Those who know me, even vaguely will tell you I am a movie fanatic.  To be honest most of my wit comes from lines in my favorite movies.  I  also noticed that the ideas I have about love, romance and the "man" I'd fall in love with came from those movies as well.  I'm certain I'm not alone, right ladies? And Gentleman.  (What movie?)  Since I hadn't written a blog in a while and wanted to keep my mood light, I thought I'd give you my top ten list and some honorable mentions.

Honorable Mentions

  1. Bishop ( Juice)
I know I'm not by myself.  Even though he wilded out in the end.  ( I had a little thing for Rahiem too.)

     2.  Dresser (The Five Heartbeats)
Who doesn't love "the bass- man" plus he was smooth, tall & fine...

     3.  Mongo Slade (Let's Do It Again)
I got to give props to any man bold enough to wear orange knicker bockers...

     4. Esteban (Fresh)
Don't let a woman lie to you, every good girl  fantasizes about being with a "bad boy" if only for one night

     5. Mike Lowery (Bad Boys)
And  speaking of "Bad Boys"I never imagined the Fresh Prince could pull off being sexy so well...

Male Movie Characters I love…

10.Eddie Cane Jr. (The Five Heartbeats)

He had everything, a cocky attitude, velvet smooth voice with a little edge, tortured soul and all the right moves.  That spin was murder!

  9. His name is“ Wille” Willie Beeman ( Any Given Sunday).

Notice some similarities? I guess I like arrogance  mixed with a little ignorance (Sunshine clowned him about the play boook.) But Jaime’s body was nice, real nice ! I didn’t mind all the vomiting, did you?

  8. Shameek ( Belly)

Gotta have a lil conscious  thug lovin’ in your life! And yo, he came out the strip joint like a "G"...love me some Method Man. “I rides Do-lo from state ta state.”

        7. Jimmy Jump (King of New York)

He had the ultimate thug image to me; gold tooth, backward Kango, no nonsense swagger  thick gold chain.  And those lips!.. “Where’s my soda?” (Gotta give him props for “Dap” too.)

        6. G- Money (New Jack City)

webassets/NJC.jpg

G-Money was like the drug dealer with a heart of gold…thugs need love too! The chest was kinda sexy , but if I would have known what was comin’ with the azz fro in “Jason’s Lyric”, he might not have been on this list.

        5. Darius Lovehall (Love Jones)

Being that I’m a poet, a man who can conjugate some verbs, spit some similes and murmur metaphors over a jazz heavy groove, gets a couple of glances from me. Oh yes, we could just “kick it.”

        4. Savon Garrison  ( Love Jones)

And though I love a poetic-quick witted man, combine that with some intellect, wisdom and a strong since of self and I’m hooked.  Beat the wickedness outta me boy!

        3. Furious Styles ( Boys In The Hood)

webassets/BNTH.jpg

There is something comforting and sexy about a man who desires to nurture his seed and the friends of his seeds.  We’ll let the burgundy sweat pants slide. (Tre wasn’t half bad, but that fool cried too much. I don’t like suckas.)

        2. Bleek Gillium (Mo’ Betta Blues)

webassets/bleek.jpg

I’m not sure if it’s because I grew up around musicians playin’ in the garage, in the basement and the living room, or because I admire anyone who has that intimate connection with an instrument, but I am a sucker for a musician.  Apparently, it doesn’t matter if he really plays the thing or not.  Bleek & I would have some issues about that “lip” thang.  “I make my livin’ with my lips.”

  1. Louis McKay (Lady Sings the Blues)

webassets/Louis.jpg

Who did you think it was gonna be?

As a little girl, who missed her daddy terribly,I just fell in love with this character.  Yes Billie Dee was fine back in the day.  Million dollar smile and that smooth lazy way of speaking “You want my hand to fall off?” But it was his portrayal of a man who loved his woman unconditionally, at her very worst no less.  After swingin’ pots at his head to get her fix and  finding her half crazy in a padded cell; cracked lipped, tied up in a straight jacket, he still proposes! (WHAT!!!)   For that he gets my #1 spot!

(Oh yeah, the movie line was taken from “Luther” in “Set it Off”.)
